Spiros Deligiannopoulos
Composer, musicologist & pianist
Spiros’ music sets in control the main formal elements such as gesture, figure and texture. Timbre is usually the main form bearing element. The timbral playing is usually “beyond” the normal way of playing, as the performers do not simply play sounds but they have to create them in a way that they have to take personal decisions following the instructions of the score. Mobile structures, aleatoric material, microtones and new complexity texture play an important role in his music too.
Born in Zakynthos, Greece, Spiros Deligiannopoulos studied Musicology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. At the same time he studied piano at the “Contemporary Conservatory” of the city, awarded with a 1st Prize of Outstanding Performance. He later studied composition (MMus in Composition) in London (Goldsmiths – University of London). Returning to Greece, he continued studying composition by completing a PhD in Composition at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
